Maharashtra Elections: Congress’ Nana Patole Reveals Major Update on MVA Seat Finalization, Announces ‘We Have Settled on 260 Seats…’

Maharashtra Assembly Elections: The Race Heats Up as Parties Finalize Candidates

The stage is set for the much-anticipated Maharashtra Assembly elections, with the Election Commission of India officially announcing the poll dates. As political parties gear up for the contest, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and the ruling Mahayuti alliance are busy finalizing their candidate lists, creating a buzz across the state.

Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole shared some exciting updates, revealing that the MVA has finalized its candidate list for 260 out of the 288 seats. “We’re just wrapping up a few details, and the list will be sent to our high command shortly,” Patole told reporters, emphasizing the collaborative effort among the MVA partners, which include Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar, and the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena.

But it’s not all smooth sailing. Patole raised concerns about discrepancies in the voters’ list, alleging that names of their supporters are being removed, a move he claims is a misuse of power by the ruling BJP. “We’ve alerted our party workers and will be lodging a complaint with Chief Electoral Officer S Chockalingam,” he stated, underscoring the urgency of the situation.

In a parallel effort, the BJP is also in full swing, having convened a meeting of its Central Election Committee in New Delhi to discuss candidate selections. Reports suggest that discussions covered over 100 seats, with Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule indicating that the Mahayuti alliance, which includes the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP, has already decided on about 90 percent of the seats. “It’s not just about numbers; it’s about the merit of the candidates we choose,” Bawankule noted, hinting at a strategic approach to candidate selection.

As the clock ticks down to the elections, the MVA is also preparing for a crucial meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer on Friday, where they hope to address the issues surrounding the voters’ list and ensure a fair electoral process. Meanwhile, Patole mentioned that the Congress party’s screening panel has cleared names for 62 seats, which will be presented to the central election committee in a meeting scheduled for October 20.

The elections to elect the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly are set for November 20, with the counting of votes taking place on November 23. As both alliances finalize their strategies and candidates, the political landscape in Maharashtra is heating up, promising an exciting electoral battle ahead.

With the stakes high and the political atmosphere charged, all eyes will be on Maharashtra as voters prepare to make their voices heard in what promises to be a pivotal election.
