’60 Minutes’ Denies Trump’s Claim of Editing Harris Interview

60 Minutes Responds to Trump’s Claims of Editing Deceit in Kamala Harris Interview

In a fiery exchange that has captured the attention of the media landscape, CBS’s iconic news program 60 Minutes has pushed back against former President Donald Trump’s accusations of deceptive editing in its recent interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. In a statement released on Sunday night, the show firmly rebutted Trump’s claims, stating, “That is false,” and clarified the editing process behind the segment.

Trump has been vocal on social media, alleging that 60 Minutes manipulated Harris’s responses to make her appear more favorable. He specifically criticized the show’s editing of an exchange between Harris and correspondent Bill Whitaker regarding Israel, claiming that the network replaced her “crazy” or “dumb” real answer with a more palatable version. “Her REAL ANSWER WAS CRAZY, OR DUMB, so they actually REPLACED it with another answer in order to save her or, at least, make her look better,” Trump raged on Truth Social.

In response, 60 Minutes explained that the excerpt shared with CBS’s Face the Nation included a longer segment of Harris’s answer, but both broadcasts addressed the same question. The show emphasized its commitment to clarity and accuracy, stating, “When we edit any interview, whether a politician, an athlete, or movie star, we strive to be clear, accurate and on point.” They noted that the edited version was more succinct, allowing for a broader discussion in the 21-minute segment.

Adding fuel to the fire, Trump suggested that CBS should lose its broadcasting license over the interview, despite the fact that the federal government does not issue licenses for television networks like CBS. He further claimed that the network created “the Greatest Fraud in Broadcast History” and insisted it should be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

The controversy escalated when Trump backed out of a planned interview with 60 Minutes, with CBS alleging that he did so to avoid being fact-checked. The network stated, “60 Minutes fact checks every story it broadcasts,” a point that has been echoed by Harris in her own remarks. During an interview with radio host Howard Stern, she expressed disbelief at Trump’s refusal to engage with a platform that would hold him accountable. “He didn’t want to be fact-checked. This is maddening. This is insanity,” Stern remarked.

Harris elaborated on the broader implications of the situation, suggesting that the current political climate is a battle between strength and weakness. “I think that — you know, Howard, people ask me, what do you think is going on and what is the tension here? What’s at stake?” she pondered, hinting at the deeper issues at play in the upcoming election.

As the dust settles on this media showdown, 60 Minutes has extended an open invitation to Trump for a future interview, stating, “If he would like to discuss the issues facing the nation and the Harris interview, we would be happy to have him on 60 Minutes.” Whether Trump will take them up on the offer remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the tension between the former president and the media is far from over.
