Congress Party Gears Up for Maharashtra Assembly Elections with Candidate Selection Meeting
In a significant move ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Congress party is set to convene a crucial meeting today at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters at 4:30 PM. This meeting comes on the heels of the party’s recent announcement of its first list of 48 candidates, as it prepares to contest the upcoming elections scheduled for November 20, with results to be declared on November 23.
Among the notable candidates announced in the first list are state unit Chief Nana Patole, who will contest from Sakoli, and former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who is set to run from Karad South. Other key nominations include Praful Vinodrao Gudadhe for Nagpur South West, Balasaheb Thorat from Sangamner, and Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar from Brahmapuri. The Deshmukh brothers, Dhiraj and Amit, will also be in the fray, contesting from Latur Rural and Latur City, respectively.
The Congress party is not alone in this electoral battle. Nana Patole confirmed that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which includes the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has reached an agreement on seat-sharing. Each party will contest 85 seats out of the total 255 constituencies, with the remaining 23 seats to be allocated based on their respective candidate lists.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) has already released its first list of 65 candidates, featuring prominent names like Aaditya Thackeray, who will contest from the Worli assembly constituency, and Sunil Raut. This collaborative effort among the alliance partners aims to consolidate their positions against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which emerged as a dominant force in the 2019 assembly elections, winning 105 seats.
As the nomination process for the 288 assembly seats kicks off, the political landscape in Maharashtra is heating up. The Congress party’s strategic candidate selection and the MVA’s united front could play a pivotal role in shaping the outcome of the elections. With the stakes high and the clock ticking, all eyes will be on the Congress meeting today as they finalize their candidates and strategies for the upcoming polls.
