Is Kamala Harris Struggling as the Presidential Race Tightens? – The Week

Is Kamala Harris Losing Ground as Election Day Approaches?

With just 17 days left until the presidential election, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris appears to be facing a challenging moment in her campaign. Recent polls indicate that Republican frontrunner Donald Trump is gaining significant momentum, raising questions about Harris’s ability to maintain her lead in crucial swing states. As both candidates ramp up their efforts, the race is tightening, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Recent polling data reveals a neck-and-neck battle in key states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, where Harris and Trump are currently tied. This is particularly concerning for Harris, who had initially gained traction following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race. After a tumultuous first debate where Trump seemed to dominate, Harris managed to rally support within her party and among voters. However, as the election draws closer, her momentum appears to be waning.

According to a report from The Hill, Harris has lost 4 percentage points over the past month, a trend that could be detrimental as early voting has already begun in many cities. An NBC News poll further highlights this decline, showing Harris’s favorability ratings dropping from 48% to 43%. This shift is significant, especially considering that she had been a strong contender during the campaign’s early stages.

In an effort to reignite enthusiasm for her campaign, Harris has turned to celebrity endorsements. Detroit rapper Lizzo recently joined her on the campaign trail, emphasizing the importance of voter turnout in swing states. "It is crucial in a statement where thin margins can determine elections. This is the swing state of all swing states, so every single last vote here counts," Lizzo stated, underscoring the urgency of the moment.

Harris also made an appearance with pop star Usher in Atlanta, aiming to connect with younger voters and energize her base. However, the pressure is mounting as Trump intensifies his personal attacks on Harris. In a recent rally in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, he claimed that she is further left than prominent Democratic figures like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders. "You have to tell Kamala Harris that you’ve had enough, that you just can’t take it anymore. We can’t stand you, you’re a shit vice president," Trump declared, a comment that is sure to resonate with his supporters.

For Harris to replicate Biden’s 2020 victories in Michigan and Georgia, she will need strong support from predominantly non-white cities like Detroit and Atlanta, along with their surrounding suburbs. The upcoming days will be critical as she seeks to regain her footing and rally her base in the face of a resurgent Trump campaign.

As the countdown to Election Day continues, the question remains: Can Kamala Harris turn the tide in her favor, or will Donald Trump capitalize on his growing momentum? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain—every vote will count in this fiercely contested election.
